The Merits of Chennai Elliot’s Beach


The Elliot's Beach which is is situated in Chennai, Tamil Nadu which is on the eastern coast of India. The popular Marina Beach in Chennai extends southwards and gives rise to the Elliot's Beach. This beach is located near Besant Nagar, the main feature of the Elliot's beach is the calmness and an ideal place to go for sea bathing. Unlike in Marina beach where bathing and swimming is prohibited. This beach is popular among travelers. Elliot's is pleasant, safe for swimming and ideal for leisure.

The clean atmosphere, combined with various attractions at the beach, ensures that the place is always equipped by tourists as well as by local peoples residing in the nearby places. The beach is also called as "Bessie", Elliot's beach is filled with fast food stalls, small stores, and a few shops, and serves as hangout for most of the peoples. About one kilometer to the north of the Elliot's beach is a nice, clean and quiet place of the beach, the "Theosophical Society headquarters" where the river Adyar meets the sea. This place is a favorite haunt for bird-watchers, different species of birds like egrets, pond-herons and pigeons, kingfisher are seen here.

The southern part of the beach is found with some beautiful temples like the Ashtalakshmi Temple, the cities new shore temple dedicated to the eight manifestations of Goddess Lakshmi, a Ganesha Temple and the Velankanni Church. The Schmidt Memorial,a stone memorial to Danish sailor, Karl Schmidt, who lost his life rescuing a drowning swimmer is one of the popular landmark on the beach.

There are also some of the famous restaurants near Elliot's Beach namely Ponnuswamy Restaurant, Karaikudi restaurant, Lee's Chinese Restaurant and the new Shangri La or called as Malaysian restaurant.
