Imperial Beach


Imperial Beach has many parks and recreation centers in the city, offering a variety of activities and attractions. They have picnic facilities for playgrounds with grass playing fields to horseshoe pits and volleyball courts, parks and some even have spectacular sea views. The Imperial Beach Skate Park, located in the Imperial Beach Sports Park Recreation Center, has a bowl, ramps, grind rails and benches for skaters of all ages to enjoy.

The recreation center offers services such as a games room, a café, a dance, a music room, a fitness center and picnic grounds. The more organized activities can be found in the city Boys and Girls Club, which offers many programs for youth in the community.

One attraction of any community is the school, and Imperial Beach has its share of educational options. Bayside Elementary, Central Elementary, Imperial Beach Elementary, Oneonta Elementary and West View Elementary schools include for children, Mar Vista Middle School, actually located in San Diego, is where students are going to high school, students Imperial Beach end either in Mar Vista High School or High School Southwest.

The Imperial Beach Senior Center is a popular institution among adults. It is located on the street in August 1075 and is open to people aged 50 and older. The Senior Center offers a variety of life enriching classes and activities in a fun and social. They even offer free tax assistance, free legal services and even a blood pressure clinic once a month.

One thing very unique to this community is the internationally recognized U.S. Open Contest Sandcastle held every summer for the past 30 + years. It is known that the completion largest sand castle in the United States and attracts around 300,000 people over a weekend. Besides the competition itself, there is a street festival, compete with food vendors, musical entertainment and arts and crafts. It's a good place to see and one that certainly will not want to miss during the summer.
